*about KINETTA (the movie)

“It was the idea of these three lonely people, and what tied them together,” he says. “It was also my discovery of this area, Kinetta. It’s a resort outside Athens, very popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s. There were many hotels and beach houses, and now it’s become very decadent and most of the hotels are empty and not renovated. There’s a highway at the back of these hotels and houses now, going to other destinations. So when I went there, it did something to me. I thought it would be a nice idea to place these characters there; it tied things together. So I discussed it with another writer. We worked out a twenty-page script, and it evolved from that.” (...)

Κινέττα. Ένα ξεψυχισμένο θέρετρο όπου τον χειμώνα ζουν μετανάστες εργάτες. Ένας μυστικός αστυνομικός παθιασμένος με τ’ αυτοκίνητα, τα κασετόφωνα και τις Ρωσίδες, ερευνά μια σειρά από δολοφονίες που έγιναν πρόσφατα στην περιοχή. Επιστρατεύει τη βοήθεια ενός υπαλλήλου φωτογραφείου, ενός μοναχικού τύπου που κάνει και βιντεοσκοπήσεις, και μια νεαρή καθαρίστρια ξενοδοχείου, η οποία θα υποδύεται τα θύματα. Το παράξενο αυτό τρίο αναπαριστά τον ένα φόνο μετά τον άλλο, κάτω από τη σχολαστική –αν και αμφιβόλου επιστημονικής σκοπιμότητας—σκηνοθεσία του αστυνομικού. Ο υπάλληλος του φωτογραφείου ερωτεύεται την καμαριέρα, ενώ ο αστυνομικός είναι τρελός για το νέο μοντέλο της BMW. Και η καθαρίστρια δίνεται ολοκληρωτικά στο ρόλο της, προσπαθώντας να γίνει το τέλειο θύμα. Δεν ξέρουμε τίποτ’ άλλο γι’ αυτούς τους ανθρώπους. Ούτε τα ονόματά τους. Θα εξαφανιστούν με το πρώτο κύμα των παραθεριστών.

Kinetta. A defunct Greek resort town, inhabited during the off-season by migrant workers. A plain-clothes cop, with a passion for automobiles, tape recorders and Russian women, investigates a series of recent murders in the area. He enlists the help of a photo-store clerk, a loner type who is a part-time videographer, and a young hotel maid, who will be performing the role of the female victims. This oddball trio engages in a succession of murder re-enactments, directed by the cop with exhaustive attention to detail but questionable scientific purpose… The photo-store clerk develops a crush on the maid. The cop is desperately attracted to the latest BMW model. The maid throws herself into her acting challenge with determination, trying her best to become the perfect victim. We know nothing more of these people. Not even their names. They will disappear in the first flood of summer vacationers.
